Being a Rock Star...Rocks!

I’m not talking about expensive cars, designer clothes and red carpets; I’m talking about people who rock at their jobs and aspire to do the same in their personal lives.

Professional Rock Star, Trish Bishop, was our speaker at the last YES meeting of 2010. She developed the idea of Rock Stars as she noticed exceptional people throughout her career. She began as a Customer Service Manager for one of Canada’s first Internet Service Providers and didn’t stop until she was developing and implementing learning strategies for Fortune 500 organizations.

Along the way, Trish was fascinated by Rock Stars. What made them able to rock regardless of education or training? Drawing on her observations, Trish published her book, The Question Journey, developed the 10 Essential Rock Star Skills program and began her mission to motivate others and reach their Rock Star potential.

Trish’s presentation sent us into the holiday season with some intriguing ideas to consider.

She defines Rock Stars as people who take ideas and run with them. They are goal-focused, and do not stop until their goals are fully realized. They are driven and continuously learning; problem-solvers, relentlessly determined and committed to integrity.

Trish offered those at YES an insight that resonated with me long after the meeting: “Real power comes from empowering others.”

Humility: what a concept!

Humility is the bonus step in the Bishop’s ten step program, and it struck me as the most important. Practicing humility opens doors that would otherwise remain closed. It means that we can live lives of greatness and empower others to reach their highest potential at the same time. If we take the time to actually see others, we can achieve great things together.

I’m not currently rocking out in true Rock Star fashion, but I know this is something that I can work towards. Trish Bishop’s program reminded that I have something to offer, and this something is not to be underestimated. Being a Rock Star allows us to represent ourselves to the best of our abilities, and embrace our true selves -- I love that. In that I believe we can be truly successful.

Soon enough, I’m going to be a Rock Star too. Trust me.

Thank you again to Trish for her inspiring presentation! Do yourself a favour -- check out Trish’s 10 Essential Rock Star Skills to learn how to become a Rock Star and harness what you’ve got!
