5 Laws to Master the Recipe to Success

I actually made it to the YES mixer on time last week. And I’m quite proud of myself because tardiness is a serious problem of mine. For some reason, I cannot manage to leave my house on time, to locate my car keys, or to correctly decipher how long it will take me to get from point a to point b. It’s like I have some sort of psychological barrier that prohibits me from getting my life together in a time-efficient manner.
But this week was different.
I thought it was a stroke of good fortune, that the stars had aligned for me in a way that only the cosmos can design, but when I listened to
Anthony Hamilton’s key note speech at the mixer, I saw my success-in-timeliness in a new light.
Maybe I did it. And maybe, just maybe, I could do it again.
Anthony Hamilton, Professor of Communications, executive coach and empowerment trainer asserts that success is all in the mind. He provided those at the YES mixer with his ‘Five Laws of Success’ in hopes that each of us could use it as a guide on our various journeys.
Hamilton also discussed the importance of belief systems; if we change our individual beliefs, we change our perceptions of the world. He stated that success is a process. We must value the journey along the way just as much as we value achieving an end goal; as long as we are moving forward, we are successful.
What Hamilton spoke about that resonated most with me was that the imagination holds important information about one’s future in the same way that memory holds information about one’s past.
Uhh...what? That is an opportunity I have been missing.
“So what you’re telling me, Anthony, is that I can see my future...by creating it myself in my imagination?” Yup, that’s what he was saying.
This concept gives one’s imagination strength and validity; it takes away the abstract nature of the imagination, the dreamer/idealist mentality, and awards it the authority it so rightly deserves. It is an empowering tool that I have under-valued for far too long. It took goal-setting to a whole new world for me. My goals actually meant something; they were no longer just abstract, listed ideas.
To me, being on time is to be successful; it also aligns with my professional goals. Timeliness exhibits a kind of courtesy that can make or break a relationship, both professional and personal, and achieving this is a major part of my ideal future. Hamilton offered the example of becoming an architect of your own ideal future. By using the power of one’s mind to believe in ones’ self, one can craft their future and achieve his or her dreams.
“Six twenty, six twenty, you’re leaving the house at six twenty!” I repeated the time over and over again in my mind. And clearly, my imagination’s visualization actually worked.
I think that I created my future on a small scale last week and I’m excited about putting this concept into practice in a much bigger way.
Here’s a big thanks to Anthony Hamilton for taking the time to speak at our YES mixer last week. Come out this Thursday for another inspiring speaker; I’ll see you there by six thirty...or so.
